NATURE JOURNALING ADVENTURES FOR KIDS & ADULTS

Lyssa will lead four, short, nature journaling workshops for adults and kids (age 10 & up), at the Tualatin River Bird Festival! This is part of a four-day event filled with presentations, guided walks, birding, artwork, and a flock of other activities sponsored by the Friends of the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge.

A list of times and topics for each of my workshops is listed below, along with links to pre-register if you are interested. The Festival is charging a small fee of $8/workshop. Please plan to arrive early (to leave plenty of time for parking, finding the shelter, and sign-in); because the workshops are each only 45-min. long, we will be starting promptly at the times listed below:

Rotating Mini-Workshops (45 min. each) - Join us for one or more (or all)!

10:00 – 10:45 am – Private Eye: Nature observation, sketching, and poetry
11:00 – 11:45 am – Walk Like an Animal: Write a story about a refuge resident
1:00 – 1:45 pm – Sensory Observations: Explore and write with all of your senses
2:00 – 2:45 pm – Private Eye: Nature observation, sketching, and poetry

**Fearless Voices: A Summer Writing Adventure for Middle School Girls**

Express yourself while indulging your love of creative writing in this adventurous camp for middle school girls on Mount Tabor!

YOUNG WRITERS: 4-WEEK SUMMER WRITING CAMP: “Word to the Process”

In this four-week, eight-session workshop, writers will go deeper into the craft and process of writing in order to be better prepared to utilize their creative skills through junior high, high school and beyond. Ideal for students ages 12-16, “Word to the Process” will pay particular focus on story structure, language choices, revision, the importance of positive critiquing and peer feedback. 

COST: $225, payable in one or two installments 
DATES: July 12-August 4 (eight sessions in four weeks)

Instructor Bio:
Dave Jarecki owns Breakerboy Communications, a writing firm that helps businesses, individuals and non-profit organizations communicate through story. He facilitates writing workshops for youth and adult writers throughout the Greater Portland area. His fiction, non-fiction and poetry have appeared in a number of journals and publications, including Cloudbank Literary Magazine, INUR Magazine, Baseball Savvy, and Reed Magazine. He and his wife Courtney live in NE Portland with their newborn daughter, Lazadae.
