This retreat, in the enchanted
forest of Silver Falls, offers the opportunity to renew your connection with your body, your heart, your creativity, and the Earth.
In an atmosphere of acceptance and support, we'll use writing, yoga, meditation, collage, movement, silence, ritual and time in nature to regenerate our vitality and creativity, reconnect with our authentic self, release old stories that no longer serve us and renew our visions and dreams. Enjoy delicious means prepared for you and a comfortable cabin tucked away in the magical forest of Silver Falls. There will also be time to explore the natural wonders of this unique state park. All women are welcome - no previous writing experience needed. 10 participants max. |

*Cost is $420 for a shared cabin and $470 for a single (a very limited amount of single cabins available) *$150 deposit holds your spot; balance is due 2 weeks before the retreat; deposit is refundable minus a $35 processing fee with at least 2 weeks cancellation notice. *The retreat begins with dinner Friday evening, and ends on Sunday afternoon. the lovely study at McMenamin's Edgefield Hotel. We'll spend half the
day writing to prompts and offering one another feedback. There will
opportunity in the afternoon for extended writing sessions to deepen
your story and then share your day's accomplishments.

Who should attend? Writers looking for uninterrupted time to write in a safe and nurturing setting. All genres welcome, including: poetry, personal essay, non-fiction, and memoir/creative non-fiction. The weekend is idea for any level of writing or stage of your project. Come for the evening, a day or the entire weekend.

This workshop is led by Kelly Wallace, who owns and operates the Writers Boot Camp West. She was a Hawthorne Fellow ‘12 at The Attic Institute and is a member of the Pinewood Table writer’s group led by Stevan Allred and Joanna Rose.

Words Gone Wild: A Woodland Writing Retreat

How
do we locate and define “wildness” in today's highly-technologized
world? How do we interface with earth's primal places to reclaim a piece
of our animal selves? All cultivated lands have wild roots, as do our
cultured minds. It's time to dig into old foundations, pull up what was
long ago buried, and reclaim our wild souls. Please join me in the
lushly-forested foothills of Mt. Hood for a wild romp of imagination,
breath, and words. We'll discover and explore our own wilderness of
spirit through freewriting, sharing, and related readings and
discussion, plus breathing and meditating with the land and trees.*
*We will do some walking on trails, but it will not be strenuous.
Instructors: Lyssa Tall Anolik with special guest, Betty Esthelle (who will lead the meditation portions of the retreat)

About the Instructors:
Lyssa
Tall Anolik holds a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Washington
and an M.F.A. in Writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She
taught environmental education for ten years, was a ranger naturalist
for the National Park Service, and has written watershed curriculum
materials and interpretive signage for state and local parks. Lyssa's
recent nature writings (essays and poetry) have appeared in The Wild,
EarthSpeak, EarthVision, ViceCatcher, and Drash. She teaches in and
around the Portland area.
Betty
Esthelle is a registered nurse who became a psychotherapist, then a
healer, then a teacher of healers. In 1984, as a result of her
involvement in healing herself after a diagnosis of lymphoma and a near
death experience, Betty was inspired to expand her work and originate
Body Enlightenment. Betty turned 85-years-young this April. As a
birthday gift from the universe, she developed a deeper and more dynamic

Indigo Editing co-owner Kristin Thiel will be offering private one-on-one editorial consultations as part of our Mentor in the House weekend program. Writers seeking a professional eye on any near-completion fiction or non-fiction project should consider this unique opportunity to work closely with an accomplished editor.
For the weekend, Ms. Thiel will live and write at the Colonyhouse, a historic log cabin on the Oregon Coast at Rockaway Beach, and will be available for personally tailored hour-long consultations with each retreat participant. In addition to plenty of time to write over the weekend, an optional Saturday night sharing allows participants to workshop their writing in a relaxed atmosphere with the mentor and other retreat-goers.
The cost of the retreat is $150 for Oregon Writers Colony members, and $190 for non-members. This price includes shared lodging at the Colonyhouse. Participants are expected to provide their own food and bedding. A communal meal may be arranged with the consent of the mentor.
