The 5th
Annual Terroir Creative Writing Festival of Yamhill County will be held
9-5, on Saturday April 19, 2014, at the Yamhill Valley Chemeketa
Community College campus in McMinnville. A full program of speakers
includes authors of fiction, poetry, and memoir, as well as a workshop
in travel writing and hands-on sessions in making letterpress broadsides
and creating a handmade book. Registration discounts for students,
seniors, and pre-registration.

Among the authors presenting are Paulann Petersen, Oregon Poet Laureate and widely published poet; Karen
Karbo, author of fourteen award-winning novels, memoirs and works of
non-fiction including the best-selling “Kick Ass Women” series; Joe Wilkins, whose books have won awards both in prose and poetry (Notes from the Journey Westward, The Mountains and the Fathers, and others);
Maggie Chula (president of the Tanka Society of America and author of
seven poetry collections); nonfiction author and poet Barbara Drake (Peace at Heart, Driving One Hundred); poet and Linfield College professor Lex Runciman (One Hour That Morning and four other collections); memoirist Lisa Ohlen Harris (The Fifth Season and Through the Veil); and novelist Stephen Long (There’s a Somebody).
Broadside and letterpress artist Juniper White will discuss the
history of the literary broadside and teach a workshop in using
letterpress to print poetry broadsides. Journalist and travel author
Emily Grosvenor, whose work appears in Sunset magazine, AAA magazine,
newspapers, and other publications, will speak on travel writing.
Marilyn Worrix, Founder and Director of the Book Arts Center of
McMinnville, will conduct a two hour workshop in making your own
handmade book, supplies provided.

Write to Publish: Write What You Know tickets are available now!
Portland State University’s Ooligan Press is excited to announce its
fifth annual Write to Publish conference, to be held February 23rd,
2013, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Native American Student Community Center on
the PSU campus.
This year’s nonfiction theme, Write What You Know, will feature local authors Floyd Skloot, Lidia Yuknavitch and Kristian Williams, among others, speaking about their personal experiences navigating the industry. They will be joined by other industry professionals, with the goal of demystifying the publishing industry for burgeoning writers.
Write to Publish is the brainchild of Ooligan Press, a nonprofit trade press run by students of Portland State University’s Book Publishing graduate program.
This year’s conference will also host a lunch catered by California Pizza Kitchen and a writing contest for non-fiction submissions limited by 2,000 words. The grand prize winner will receive a pitch to agent Betsy Amster of Betsy Amster Literary Agency! Submissions are due by Feb. 9th.

Write to Publish Conference
Are you tired of hearing, “no”? Do you wonder how to get an agent or if you even need one? Are you tired of going to the same type of writing conferences; teaching you how to write, how to develop your characters and the correct formula for plot, climax, and ending? Have you ever said aloud, “I wonder if I need an agent?” or, “Which publishing companies should I submit my manuscripts to?” Write to Publish is unlike any conference you’ve ever attended. Instead of focusing on the craft of writing, we explore to process of getting published. Our primary goal at Write to Publish is to demystify the publishing process for writers. Write to Publish is a two day conference taking place over the weekend of May 21st and 22nd.
The first day of Write to Publish includes two tracks of four workshops, each workshop is a hour and fifteen minutes long. You may choose to come to one, two or three workshops.
The price for students is $28 and non-students is $35 per workshop, or to the whole day is $100 for students and $120 for non-students. Purchasing the whole day will give you a free ticked to day two of the conference.

Whether you're a writer just starting out, a writer in search of answers, or a writer who needs to get more words on the page, you can find inspiration, answers and camaraderie at Summer in Words Writing Conference. Three days of events, talks, and workshops taught by some of the Northwest's best authors and writing instructors will help you learn more about story and craft and invite you to move forward. This year's focus is Truth, Risk & Lies and you can network, share your work, and receive invaluable instruction and feedback in a beautiful setting.
Instructors: Bill Johnson, Jessica Morrell, Randall Platt, Deborah Reed, Adam O’Connor Rodriguez, Cheryl Strayed, Emily Whitman provide information on subjects from Narrative Voice to What an Editor Wants to writing from The Fearless Place.
This year’s registration fee of $245 covers the three-day workshops, Friday night reception and keynote and Saturday lunch and keynote, Saturday night Out Loud and Sunday morning Continental Breakfast, keynote and panel. Prices for individual days are available. A registration fee of $100 is required to hold your place and early registration is recommended since space is limited.
