Getting to the Essence of Things: An Exploration of Poetry and Photography

A benefit workshop for VoiceCatcher

with Cindy Williams Gutiérrez and Ivonne Saed
Date: Saturday, June 18th
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm

Art is about seeing. It is about abstraction--peeling back the layers of the obvious to arrive at the essence. In this unique cross-disciplinary workshop offered by collaborative artists Cindy Williams Gutiérrez and Ivonne Saed, you will have the opportunity to see the world anew through your mind's eye and the camera lens.

Using poems by Richard García, Donald Justice, and May Swenson as springboards, participants will use photography to create visual responses to an object to which they are drawn. Participants will then explore that object through a series of poems or short pieces of prose. With each new draft and photographic image, they will dig deeper for the essence of things.

Visual artists and writers of all genres and genders are welcome.
Please bring a digital camera, paper, and pen.

Location: Miracle/Milagro Theatre in the Zócalo (525 SE Stark St.)
Tuition: $50 (All proceeds to benefit VoiceCatcher.)
To register: Email info@voicecatcher.org (Seating is limited so register TODAY!)
