Writing Our Queer History with David Ciminello

Queer here is defined as the strange or the odd from a conventional viewpoint; the unusually different; certainly the singular. This workshop will give participants the opportunity to develop the practice of creative non-fiction and fiction writing about queer personal histories, family histories, and cultural heritage. The main goal will be a written exploration of our queer selves. What is strange or different about us? We will excavate memories of our selves and our families to identify what's queer from our past. Students will be encouraged to write memoir and/or fact-based fiction. Writings will be advanced with the help of in-class exercises, at-home assignments, and some assigned readings. Supportive in-class critique and revision will be a strong part of the process.
