Weekend Boot Camp: Creating New Worlds

Whether we are writing memoirs, dystopic fiction, or just trying to tell a good story...
We still have to make the world of our characters inhabit believable. Yet believability is not so simple. Sometimes a magic fish is more believable than a banker counting money. Why? What is it that makes a world feel real? In this workshop we will work with how we set up the rules of our worlds and keep the contract with the reader. After all, magic fish are not a problem in a place where they spawn naturally. Participants should come ready to work with the opening pages of stories, memoir, or novels. All genres and mediums welcome!

What is a weekend boot camp?
Attic Institute weekend boot camps are short immersions intended to help sharpen our tools as writers by focusing on one aspect of craft at a time. Many of us don’t have lives that allow for lengthy writing retreats. Weekend boot camps can give us the push we need to keep going when it’s hard.
