Flash Memoir with Kevin Sampsell

Location: Crow Arts Manor (at Milepost 5)
Date: August 13th, 11am-3pm, in the garden
Cost: $40

Flash Memoir is an evocative and revelatory form that takes a writer’s personal memories and mental snapshots and delivers them in the style of flash fiction. Utilizing what Sampsell called his “memory experiments” in his 2010 memoir, A Common Pornography, Time Out Chicago wrote, “Sampsell has written a memoir unlike almost any other.”  Harper’s Magazine called it ”[A] rather miraculous act of artistic self-creation” and author Jonathan Ames said, “I love its mosaic structure–a portrait of a family and a young man created out of jewel-like fragments of memory.”  Join Sampsell for this one-day workshop where he will discuss various methods, approaches, and exercises, as well as the importance in exploring the mundane as well as the unusual.
