This class will be part workshop, part discussion of the unique craft that makes up young adult novels. We will examine what elements make up a novel meant for young adults: characterization, emotional arcs, plotting, form, and crafting scenes. Students will read excerpts from young adult novels, as well as write and hone their own first chapters so that they leave ready to write their books.
